• PRESS RELEASE
30th September, 2007

Financial Appeal for
Omolade & Adetoro Sijuwade
Memorial School

THE VISION OF THE SCHOOL
This is an invitation to all well meaning Nigerians to participate in the building process of the above named School which is a unique gift to underprivileged children in Ile Ife and environs. The vision for the school was received in November 2005 by the founder, of the project, Jackie Adeola Oni during a worship service in Church. That was when she was specifically instructed by God to build a school for underprivileged children in Nigeria and was also told the land for this purpose will be given to her. Thus, it is anticipated that many would come out to support this vision, thus echoing the commitment of the founder, who is making a difference in the lives of the children living in and around Ile Ife – Osun State, Nigeria, with particular emphasis in the area of primary education.

YOUR SUPPORT IS NEEDED
Whereas some amount of money has already been raised, through PROJECT NIGERIA, with the assistance of various individuals and the DB, within the city of London, it is anticipated that many in Nigeria would commit to match the efforts of the founder so that the building project will be completed promptly for the benefit of the children who have waited for a long time for such a school.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES
There is a local Board of Trustees in place to monitor the School project in Nigeria. The Head teacher, along with the counselors and trustees will define the school administrative policies and long-term goals. These deadline-driven trustees have been carefully picked in their relevance and ability to deliver on our initiatives with accountability. Their responsibilities include:
• Overseeing the building work.
• Formation of an accounting board.
• Regular liaison with the UK Fund Raising Committee.
• Recruitment of teaching staff, builders and children.
• The implementation of plans for future funding for the school once it has been initially erected.
ETHOS OF THE SCHOOL
• Project Nigeria is a commuting school - not a boarding school. We will work with children that are underprivileged. It is anticipated that the primary school will be for poor children covering ages 5 to 11; delivering education that complies with the Nigerian National curriculum. Multiple ethnic wars, years ago have left several children without parents and a serious need for re-development in Ile-Ife. We believe children are the future and the very best way to look forward in Ile-Ife is to invest in its future: the children of Ile-Ife.

• It is anticipated that Project Nigeria will have a life-changing effect on children that would otherwise lack basic education and miss out on reaching their full potential in life. We also believe that the children at our school could be an inspiration to the communities that they represent with quality education.

• Moreover, we remain convinced that access to education will enhance their ability to one day become a new financial support for their families and communities.
• The school will not be fee-based.

• The School is expected to be staffed by qualified teachers from the locality.

• We envision a maximum of 20 students per class, starting from the first year. We are aiming to start the building project in order for the first intake of 20 students to start in September 2007. In 2008, we will roll the second class of 20 students with a capacity of 120 students by September 2013.

THE SCHOOL BUILDING STRUCTURE/SITE
• The school will be built on four acres of land that has been donated, which has the potential to be connected to power and water supplies (refer to land plans attached). The school site is close to a well constructed road to allow access and we plan to offer transport to children if they are unable to make their own way to school. Architects plans have been donated to build a school which includes 6 classrooms, a staff room, a computer room, sanitary facilities and a playground.

THE ESSENCE OF THE FINANCIAL APPEAL
• The funding we are requesting will enable us to fund the building costs.
• Set up the water supply from the pond.
• Furnish the computer-room.
• Buy basic furniture for the classes
• Install electricity.
• Acquire a bus for transportation to and from the school.
• Any extra funding will be rolled over to the school management to cover expenses.

We want to start building as soon as the funds are available. The process will take between 6 – 8 weeks to complete with the rainy season taken into consideration. The building cost for 6 classrooms is estimated at £15,000. The cost will increase by about £5,000 as we will need 3 extra rooms i.e. computer room, toilets, staff room as stated above.

THE CHILDREN SAY ‘GET INVOLVED’
We anticipate that you would see the viability of this project and join hands with us. We are requesting a donation of at least N 1,875,000 (£15,000) to make our vision a reality. We look forward to developing a long-term relationship with you for the benefit of the children. We hope that you would hear the voices of the children singing and urging you to get involved. Moreover, we will appreciate your ideas and suggestions at all times. The School has come to stay.

Thank you.
